What license models are available for TeamSpeak 3?
There are several license models:
Non-Profit License (NPL) Unregistered: This license allows a maximum of 1 virtual server and 32 slots. This is the default, embedded license when you download TeamSpeak 3 for free and do nothing else.
Non-Profit License (NPL) Registered: This license allows a maximum of 10 virtual servers and 512 slots AND requires registration via Triton's website.
Commercial License for Authorized TeamSpeak Host Providers (ATHPs): This license is required of any commercial entity or hosting company which rents servers to others for profit OR provides TeamSpeak 3 servers "free of charge to customers" via inclusion of any other for-profit services.
Annual Activation License (AAL) for Commercial Entities: This license is required of any commercial entity or business which does NOT rent servers to others, but wants to use TeamSpeak 3 within a commercial environment. Internet Cafes or small to medium sized businesses using TeamSpeak 3 for internal communication are typical candidates for purchasing an Annual Activation License.
TeamSpeak 3 Software Development Kit (SDK) License: Commercial entities using the TeamSpeak 3 SDK (NOT to be confused with the TeamSpeak 3 Plugin SDK for the TeamSpeak 3 client which is always free) must purchase an SDK license by contacting Triton CI & Associates via . Pricing information for the TeamSpeak 3 SDK is NOT published to the open public. Some special cases for non-profit entities using the TeamSpeak 3 SDK are also evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Triton for inquiries or further details.
Please note that if you are a commercial entity or business you MUST license any and ALL TeamSpeak 3 servers you host regardless of whether or not you choose to charge anything for the use of your servers. Hosters which turn a profit of any kind yet give TeamSpeak 3 away "for free" does NOT render the hoster as a non-profit entity.
I am a Game Server Provider (GSP) or hosting company and want to offer TeamSpeak 3 as a FREE bonus to my game servers or to some other related hosting service I provide. Do I still need to be licensed?
Yes. The key determining factor as to whether or not you need to purchase a license has to do with whether or not you are a COMMERCIAL ENTITY...and has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not you choose to charge anything for the use of any servers you host. So, as a GSP or web hosting company of any kind, you must license any and ALL TeamSpeak servers you host regardless of whether or not you choose to charge anything for the use of those servers. Sponsorships to clans/guilds do NOT exclude you from having to pay for licensing. Once again, if you are a COMMERCIAL ENTITY in business to make a profit of ANY kind, you MUST purchase and license ALL of your TeamSpeak servers.
Where can I obtain technical support?
Free technical support for non-profit licenses (NPLs) or non-commercial entities can only be obtained through our forums or this FAQ. Please do not contact TeamSpeak Systems via email as your chances of getting free tech support are much better in the forums.
Licensed, paying customers can obtain technical support by creating a support ticket via Triton's website. Paying customers will be asked for their Triton Account ID NUMBER so be prepared to provide it. If you cannot provide a valid Triton Account ID number your ticket may be ignored.
How is TeamSpeak 3 different from TeamSpeak 2 and why did it take so long to release?
TeamSpeak 3 is a complete re-write of the product from the ground up. Previous versions of TeamSpeak were written in Pascal, a much older programming language with many limitations. In contrast, TeamSpeak 3 is written in C++ and not only introduces a completely new SDK based architecture, but right from its initial release to the public has also introduced cross-platform support for both client and server for Windows, Linux, and Macintosh platforms. This was not an easy feat which is one of the reasons the dev team chose to take the added time to make certain that TeamSpeak 3 is everything our users and customers have come to expect in a quality VoIP product. Also keep in mind TeamSpeak 3 introduces many new features as well as tackles many previous challenges in terms of scalability, compatibility, and of course superior voice quality. For more information and background on TeamSpeak 3 please visit our YouTube podcasts.
Is TeamSpeak 2 compatible with TeamSpeak 3?
TeamSpeak 2 is in no way compatible with TeamSpeak 3. Keep in mind TeamSpeak 3 has been completely re-written in C++, introduces new features, and the protocol itself has been completely re-engineered. Therefore, you cannot connect to a TeamSpeak 3 server using a TeamSpeak 2 client, nor can you connect to a TeamSpeak 2 server using a TeamSpeak 3 client.
Are non-profit communities and commercial entities (ATHPs) allowed to continue hosting TeamSpeak 2 servers? How long?
Yes, as long as they want. Although TeamSpeak 3 will introduce a new and much improved licensing system, dual licensing models will continue to be available for existing and future customers. We are in no way "forcing" people to migrate from TeamSpeak 2 to TeamSpeak 3. However, due to its superior feature set, we are confident many people will want to migrate regardless in the coming months soon after TeamSpeak 3 enters open beta.
Does TeamSpeak 3 introduce new codecs for better voice quality?
Absolutely! TeamSpeak 3 has been re-designed with this in mind, and we are confident that you will be quite pleased with the results. Rest assured that new and improved codecs, lower latency, automatic mic adjustment, noise filtering, all resulting in better overall voice quality are already part of TeamSpeak 3's core design.
How does TeamSpeak 3 impact existing automation scripts or 3rd party tools?
The basic logic of connecting to a TeamSpeak server's query port and issuing commands is the same in both TeamSpeak 2 and TeamSpeak 3. However, TeamSpeak 3's new server query functions do not operate nor return the exact same result sets as TeamSpeak 2 does. Some additional development and tweaking of your existing scripts, control panel, etc., will most likely be required. In addition, the database structure has completely changed in TeamSpeak 3 so any direct mySQL database integration which you may have implemented will also have to be re-examined.
Can I host both a TeamSpeak 2 and TeamSpeak 3 server on the same IP or physical machine?
Yes of course. The two products are independent of one another in terms of operation and licensing. However, please note that for non-profit entities the limitations are different. If you are a 100% non-profit entity you may host up to 10 virtual servers and 1000 slots using TeamSpeak 2, or 10 virtual servers and 512 slots using TeamSpeak 3 (which requires registration for a Non-Profit License (NPL)).
What is the difference between the "TeamSpeak 3 SDK" and the "TeamSpeak 3 Plugin SDK"?
The TeamSpeak 3 SDK is designed to integrate TeamSpeak 3 voice communication technology into an existing client/server application of any kind (including a Java based web application). It is noteworthy to understand that projects utilizing the TeamSpeak 3 SDK cannot make use of the TeamSpeak 3 Client and Server. To date, such projects have included America's Army 3 (a popular, first person shooter) which you can read more about on our Press Release page...as well as numerous private military simulator projects (most of which we cannot disclose) which incorporate TeamSpeak 3 technology directly into their client/server applications.
In contrast, the TeamSpeak 3 Plugin SDK lets you create extensions for the TeamSpeak 3 Client.
Will IPv6 be natively supported in TS3?
Yes, but not until sometime after open beta.
I am one of the few non-profit organizations which was issued the old (no longer available) 5000 slot limit TeamSpeak 2 NPO license. Can I use this license with TeamSpeak 3?
No. TeamSpeak 3 will introduce an entirely new licensing system with new limits to non-profit entities. However, we do intend to allow NPOs to host what we consider to be a generous number of virtual servers and slots for non-profit reasons. For the few non-profit entities which still have a TeamSpeak 2, 5000 slot limit NPO license, this type of license will simply not exist at all in TeamSpeak 3...nor can your TeamSpeak 2 NPO license be "transferred" to TeamSpeak 3.
I found a bug or have a feature request for TeamSpeak 3. What do I do?
Visit our forums and provide a bug report or feature request there. Please keep in mind that TeamSpeak 3 is currently a "beta" product. This means most core features have been implemented although bugs and feature requests are expected. The beta period is meant to find and resolve these problems. Also keep in mind TeamSpeak 3 is not yet a finished product. By reporting bugs and problems you can help us improve TeamSpeak.
During the beta period we will periodically release updates. The more you help us by reporting issues the faster we can resolve them. During the first time after the initial beta release we will concentrate on fixing major bugs and mostly focus on stability. Newly requested features will be added afterwards, so please do not expect to post a feature request today and expect that tomorrow there will be an update with the feature implemented.
I use Spam Assassin or I've noticed I'm not receiving your emails. What can I do?
There is a known issue with SpamAssassin not being "Y2K10 compliant". If you are using SpamAssassin for your anti-spam filter, please Google the issue and research it for yourself.
If you do not use SpamAssassin, or you're confident your anti-spam solution is not the culprit, please contact your email administrator and request assistance to add [anything]@tritoncia.com to your mail server's whitelist. This should bypass any active anti-spam filters you may have which is typically the cause of most issues where users are not receiving our emails.
